One of the most valuable lessons I learned over 9 years in business was the importance of diversification - in product and market breadth, online and offline sales channels, suppliers and most poignantly - in terms of retail partners. In March of 2011, this lesson was driven home when the Fukushima earthquake disaster meant a third of my sales evaporated overnight. That particular storm didnt sink me, and instead I came back stronger and made sure to maintain a broad roster of wholesale clients and developed bridal and kids collections.
