Behind the Scenes – Bride style

You know, a couple of weeks ago I was sitting in my studio when a thought struck me – what would be the best way to celebrate Easter/Passover/The First Weekend of April? That’s when it hit me – the best way to do this would be to shoot our brand new Bridal Collection!

So this past saturday, that’s just what we did. We’ve made some great strides in Bridal in the last few months, the biggest being the appointment of my first-ever employee Kyla as the VP of Headmistress’s Bridal Division.

We rounded up some beautiful friends who graciously agreed to lend us their time and also our friend Kyle to take the pretty pictures. The rest is history – which you’ll get to see very soon. In the meantime, feast your eyes on some zany behind-the-scene photos.

Kyla was so overjoyed by the fact that the big bridal shoot day was here, that she looked like this.IMG_1539

Then Pete showed up…IMG_1636

…and things got really wild. IMG_2202This is what all of the interactions between Kyla and I look like.

A huge thank you to Megan and Kristen for getting so into character and embracing bridal-dom, to our photographer Kyle and to Kyla for her fantastic work on the collection. Get ready for some seriously innovative pieces!

Also – how amazing are the dresses in these photos??? With the exception of the first photo, all of the dresses were courtesy of Rent Frock Repeat, which is pretty much the most brilliant idea that I’ve heard of in quite some time. You should definitely check them out.

Alright friends, the great One of a Kind Show ticket giveaway continues! On wednesday we’ll be drawing for our second of four pairs of free tickets to the show.

I’m changing the rules though – to enter, the only thing you have to do is prove to me that you’ve read about the contest. So, just like the post on facebook, leave a comment or tweet at me about the show and you’ll automatically be entered.

So, let the games begin!

Giveaway on À la mode Montréal!

My friend and fellow designer Julia from La Raffinerie (I have several of her statement necklaces and LOVE them), also runs a blog called À la mode Montréal, which features fashion news and goings-on with a focus on Montreal.

This week Headmistress has teamed up with ALMM to do a giveaway! All you have to do is comment on the post stating which piece from our SS12 Children of the Corn collection is your favourite. A winner will be drawn and you get to choose which piece is your prize (with a value of up to $110!). It’s a pretty good deal. You don’t even have to know what the lovely words mean that they have said about us, but if you’re interested here’s a crude English translation from Google Translate. It’s hilarious, have a look.

So, go have a look and leave a comment (in English, French….whatever!) to win!

Headmistress + The Hunger Games + The One of a Kind Show

Guess what? Headmistress is going to be at The One of a Kind Show for the very first time this spring! In celebration, we’re going to be holding a draw (reaping) every wednesday for the next three weeks. Each week we will give away a pair of free tickets to the show (that’s a $28 value, you know), and the final week we’ll give away 2 pairs!

To enter – all you have to do is share this post either on facebook or re-tweet it on twitter. Not unlike the Hunger Games, you’ll be entered twice if you sign up for tessarae and share it via both fb and twitter.

I’ll gather all of the names and every wednesday for the next 3 weeks (starting tomorrow Wednesday March 7th), I’ll draw a name and contact you to mail out your tickets.

Again, like the Hunger Games, if you don’t win the first week your name will be re-entered for the next. The only catch? If you win, you have to come visit me at the show! Best of luck!

PS- please excuse all of the Hunger Games references. I’m just really REALLY into it right now.

Headmistress at The One of a Kind Show!

Big News! For the first time ever, Headmistress will be exhibiting at The One of a Kind Spring Show from March 28th – April 1, 2012! For those that are not familiar, this show is a big deal, and a whole lotta work, so we thought long and hard about when the right time would be to take the plunge. We are super busy getting our display figured out, not to mention producing enough stock for the show, and I couldn’t be more excited!

If you’re planning on attending, let me know because I have a discount coupon so that pay $11 instead of $14. See you there!

Spring/Summer 2012 : Children of the Corn LAUNCHED!

It’s official, just in time for Valentine’s Day our Spring/Summer 2012 Collection – Children of the Corn has officially launched!

Why is the collection called Children of the Corn, you ask? Well, let me tell you: as a child my sister and I grew sweet corn for our roadside stand from the age of 5-15, so my entrepreneurial roots were sown in the cornfield. It only made sense to draw inspiration for our SS12 collection from this experience and we decided to shoot our lookbook based on this theme of country girls with style, roaming the sunflower and cornfields in the late August afternoon sunshine. Naturally, all of our SS12 pieces are named after sweet corn varieties – Ambrosia, Precocious, Sugar Baby, Bodacious – the perfect finishing touch.

There are like a million new pieces. So please, go have a look!
